Claire caught the flash of joy and hope in Jade's eyes, smiled, and repeated again: "I am indeed not married."
Jade pointed at the ring: "Then this is..."

"This is an engagement ring. She doesn't even know if she wants to marry him."
Jade's heart sank to the bottom again. Even if they were not married, what difference would it make from being married? After all, there would no longer be a place for her by his side.
