"Vivendi" is a giant French multinational media group with a long history.
Why is it called a multinational media group? Because it has successively acquired media companies in six different countries.
These include the French advertising company Havas, New York's Cendant Software, Morocco's Maroc Tele, and Europe's large pay-TV operator NetHold. It then merged with the French film company Pathé, which was the leader in the global film industry in the early 20th century!
Later, Vivendi created the world's largest record company: Universal Music.
At that time, Universal's share of the music market exceeded the upper limit stipulated by local antitrust laws. The European Commission ordered it to stop and reflect on its actions and make corrections, but it still holds a quarter of the global market share.
