The ferry whistle blew.

The ship slowly approached the shore, steam billowed, and the crowd surged forward.

Finnegan Gu squeezed hard, stretched his neck and tiptoed, looking for the figure of his eldest master among the waving arms.

There were a lot more people at the dock today. Until this wave of people receded, Finnegan Gu's neck was about to break, but he still didn't see anyone who looked like the young master.

He was pushed back to the side of the road, squatted down, panting, and wiped the sweat with his sleeves. Could it be that he remembered it wrongly? The young master was not on this ship?

Just as I was thinking about it, I heard a faint male voice, as cold as ice, coming from above my head: "Xiao Wu."

Almost at the same time, two slender legs suddenly stepped into view.

Finnegan Gu was so shocked that he jumped up.

"Young Master?" Finnegan Gu looked at the person in front of him, his tongue tied, and he was a little hesitant to recognize him.

The man was a young man in his early twenties, tall and straight, with handsome features, black hair and long eyebrows. He had a pair of sharp eyes with slightly raised tails and deep pupils, like a dry well full of ashes. His lips were too thin and slightly pursed, and he looked cold and indifferent.

This is completely different from the skinny boy who was forced to leave home and study abroad five years ago.

If it weren't for that pair of extremely beautiful eyes that couldn't be found anywhere else in the entire Haicheng, Finnegan Gu would have really thought he had recognized the wrong person.

Finnegan Gu took the box from Asher Gu, "Master, the car is waiting over there, let's go back."

"Well," Asher Gu did not give the box to Finnegan Gu, his eyes turned indifferently, "Let's go."

Finnegan Gu has been in the Gu family for more than ten years. He is well aware of the young master's strange temper since he was a child. Frozen by the coldness, he dared not say much and quickly walked over to drive the car.

It was evening.

The azure blue sky was burned brightly by the red glow wandering on the coastline, turning into a turbulent evening mist sinking into the sea.

The humid air is filled with the unique rich fragrance of Haicheng after the rain, which is simple, cool and luxurious.

The small puddles on the street were like tiny broken mirrors, capturing the light from the sky and the shadows of the clouds. The occasional dazzling golden light reflected was as gorgeous and eye-catching as a suddenly blooming peony.

Leather shoes and high heels stepped on the tire marks of rickshaws and cars, making a clattering sound, which sounded like dance music from an old gramophone when listened carefully.

All of this is familiar yet unfamiliar. In Asher Gu's eyes, the earth-shaking changes in the past five years are just another hypocritical fake skin.

The car stopped in front of Gu Mansion.

Finnegan Gu ran up the steps and knocked on the door. After a moment, the short and fat figure of the housekeeper Fu Bo poked his head out from the door. He frowned and asked, "Finnegan Gu?"

He was just about to ask whether the eldest young master had been picked up so late at night, when he looked up and saw a young man walking up the stairs behind Finnegan Gu. He was handsome, unworldly, and aloof.

Although his aura was different now, as soon as he saw that cold face that looked like everyone owed him five hundred dollars, Uncle Harold was immediately sure that this was his eldest young master, truly.

"Master, you are back!"

Uncle Harold was pleasantly surprised and hurriedly welcomed the person in. "Madam has been talking about you all the time. If you don't come, we will have to go to the dock. Please sit down and take a rest first. I will go to the kitchen to call Madam. Madam will cook for you herself and make several dishes that you like."

Uncle Harold's face was filled with joy, and the two small moustaches on his mouth couldn't help but tremble. He ran to call for help as fast as he could.

Asher Gu walked into the mansion, put the box in his hand next to the chair, and sat down.

The house was no different from when he left five years ago. The furniture and decorations had not changed, and the familiar feeling was still there. On the table, there was still the set of tea sets he liked, and the tea was still warm.

"Han'er!"

This corny voice that made Asher Gu's hair stand on end was, as expected, the voice of his biological mother, Selina Xue, whom he had not seen for five years.

"Mother." Asher Gu's face was still cold, but his expression suddenly softened. He stood up, stretched out his arms and hugged Selina Xue who rushed over, and helped her sit down. "I'm back."

"It's good that you're back, it's good that you're back..." Selina Xue is over 40 years old, and although she looks a little old, she still has her charm. When she was young, she was definitely a famous beauty. She held Asher Gu's hand and looked at his face carefully. Her eyes were red and she couldn't help crying, "You've lost weight... Much thinner, and more handsome. Han'er has grown up..."

Her voice was trembling, and her heart was filled with pent-up emotions, but she didn't know how to express them.

Asher Gu shook Selina Xue's hand in return, "Mother, I'm hungry."

Selina Xue suddenly pulled herself out of her tears, and after a moment of trance, she quickly stood up and pulled Asher Gu to eat: "It's all my fault. I almost forgot that you've been on the boat for so long and haven't had a good meal. Come on, these are all your favorite dishes. I'll go get you some soup."

A mother worries when her son is away from home.

Asher Gu sat at the dining table, watching Selina Xue busying around with great interest. His usually indifferent expression softened a lot.

"Your mother has already had your room cleaned up, and has had the things put away put back for you. Take a look later and see if there's anything else you want..." Selina Xue said softly while picking up some food for Asher Gu.

Asher Gu paused, his eyes calm, "Mom, I'm staying outside tonight."

Selina Xue's happy expression froze on her face, slowly fading into a paleness filled with sorrow. She moved her lips and said in a hoarse voice, "Han'er, your father...he didn't come back tonight because he had something to do. He's also very happy that you're back."

Asher Gu sneered in his heart.

If he was really happy, he wouldn't have been thrown on the transoceanic ferry five years ago with injuries and never returned home. Asher Gu knew how Leonard Gu treated him.

Asher Gu has had yin and yang pupils since he was a child, and can see strange and ghostly things in the world.

Because the world he saw was different from that of other people, he was very unsociable. When he was five or six years old, Leonard Gu sent him back to his hometown in the mountains on the grounds that he was possessed by evil spirits. Later, when he could control his Yin-Yang eyes and was almost an adult, he was taken back to Haicheng.

But not long after he returned to Haicheng, he fell ill. The cause of his illness was unknown and he could not get better even after visiting many famous doctors.

Leonard Gu thought of Asher Gu’s childhood and invited an old Taoist priest to take a look.

The old Taoist calculated with his fingers and said that Asher Gu and Leonard Gu were destined not to meet each other. Because Asher Gu was young, if he stayed with Leonard Gu for too long, he would get sick and die.

When Leonard Gu heard this, he did not think that he might have harmed his son, but that the old Taoist said that Asher Gu was still young. Now he was still young, so it was Asher Gu who was hurt. What if he grew up? Then wouldn't he, the father, be hurt?

When Leonard Gu thought about this, he became very uneasy. Two days later, he suddenly felt dizzy and unwell. He no longer thought about the father-son relationship and ordered his men to throw the still sick and weak Asher Gu onto the ferry to the other side of the ocean. He remained indifferent even though Selina Xue cried and went on a hunger strike.

Selina Xue is a loving mother, but she is also a typical virtuous wife in the old society.

After crying and making a fuss, Leonard Gu comforted her and said that these were all temporary measures. The Taoist priest said that they could wait for another five years and then they could bring their son back. Selina Xue had lost her son, but she couldn't lose her husband too, so she had no choice but to believe Leonard Gu's words.

When the five-year period arrived, Leonard Gu promised to bring back Asher Gu, who had completed his studies. But the day before Asher Gu was due to come back, he boarded a train heading north with his two Concub!nes and a son and a daughter, saying that he was going to Beijing to find marriages for his children. But how could Selina Xue not guess the real reason?

The gap has been created and cannot be eliminated.

"Your father has taken Shi Qiu and Xiao Miao to Beiping. He won't be back for some time. You just stay at home." Selina Xue calmed down and smiled gently.

Asher Gu said calmly: "Mother, don't worry about me. I won't stay at home for a few days. I came back to fulfill the marriage contract left by my master."

"W-what?" Selina Xue was stunned.

During the twelve years when Asher Gu lived alone in his hometown in the mountains, Selina Xue had heard that Asher Gu had learned some martial arts from an old Taoist priest in order to strengthen his body. She thought it was just a child having fun and didn't take it seriously. Who would have thought that after so many years, there would be an engagement?

Seeing this, Asher Gu put down his chopsticks, stood up, opened his box, and took out a dark red gold-embossed marriage certificate. There was not a single crease on the corners and it was well preserved, but it had a faint old color.

He explained: "During the years I spent in Changqing Mountain, I followed a Taoist master to learn Taoism and became his disciple. When I returned to Haicheng, he gave me this engagement and asked me to complete it before the winter solstice when I turned 23. Now it is early autumn and I can't postpone it any longer."

"Marriage is a matter of parents' orders and matchmaker's words. How can this be..."

Selina Xue suppressed her anger towards the wild Taoist priest. When she took the marriage certificate and looked at it, her voice suddenly became hoarse. After a long while, she turned pale and said with trembling eyes: "Han, Han'er, tell me, this is fake. You...you are a man, how...how can you marry into the Rong family?"

The lights in the hall were bright, illuminating the flowing ink words on the marriage certificate.

On the 20th day of the twelfth month of the Year of the Pig, with the heaven and earth as witnesses, Tu Asher Gu and his son Chase Rong entered into a marriage contract, to be married within twenty-three years. Chang Qingshan and Haicheng Rong Peijing approved it and stood here.

"Mother, this matter is not up to you and me." Asher Gu said lightly.

When Asher Gu came down the mountain at the age of seventeen, he was actually a little surprised when he received the marriage certificate.

If nothing else, it was for the date set in the marriage certificate, December 20th of the Year of the Pig. That was seven days after Asher Gu was born. At that time, he didn't even know his master, and Rong Peijing didn't even have a son, nor was he the head of the Rong family with tremendous power today.

But there were Rong Peijing's handwriting and fingerprints on the paper, which could not be faked.

As for the mysterious master, Asher Gu also believed in his magical powers. In this world, there are always things that cannot be explained by human power.

"You didn't even recognize this mountain man when you were born. Rong Peijing was just a bandit who occupied the mountain. How could this marriage certificate be real?" Selina Xue knew that there might be strange people and strange things in the world, but when she thought that her son was the protagonist of this strange thing, she couldn't calm down. "Han'er, you are my only child. Such a thing..."

Asher Gu said calmly: "I will visit the Rong family tomorrow."

Selina Xue's shaking hands froze for a moment, and after a long while, they slowly relaxed. She forced a smile: "Yes, maybe this marriage certificate is fake. There are strange people, but I can't believe those who can predict the future. Besides, although our Gu family is considered a famous family in Haicheng, it is still far behind the Rong family, and they don't like us. Young Master Rong's personality doesn't seem like someone who can like a man, and the Rong family has never mentioned this matter. In my opinion, it's better to..."

She didn't say all the words, but her meaning was very clear.

What Selina Xue said actually makes sense.

Rong Peijing has changed from a bandit who occupied a mountain to the head of the Rong family who founded the Rong family in Haicheng. The Rong family is too high-ranking, and the young master Rong was a well-known and domineering man in Haicheng five years ago. How could he be willing to fulfill this marriage contract that came out of nowhere?

After listening to her, Asher Gu remained expressionless. He raised his hand and gently put his arm around Selina Xue's shoulders, then picked up the box and went back to the room.

This action conveyed Asher Gu's meaning without reservation. Selina Xue sat in the chair in a daze for a long time before he sighed deeply and ordered someone to take away the leftovers.

Asher Gu's room was decorated exactly the same as it was five years ago, but even five years ago, Asher Gu had only lived here for a short year and did not feel much familiarity or sense of belonging.

Night is falling and it is still early.

Asher Gu turned on the light, put the box on the table, and took out the things inside.

Only half of the suitcase was filled with two sets of thin clothes for him to change on the return journey.

On the other half was an old, crude wooden box. You couldn't tell what kind of wood it was made of. It was mottled and covered with layer upon layer of strange dark red carved patterns.

Asher Gu's fingers paused on the uneven pattern for a moment, and then he gently picked it up and opened the wooden box.

Countless shrill screams that ordinary people could not hear instantly pierced Asher Gu's ears. Tens of thousands of ghosts howled, and his heart trembled.

Asher Gu was used to it. He pressed the tip of his middle finger with his thumb expressionlessly. A drop of blood fell down, defeating the wildly surging black air in the box.

The ghostly howling voice slowly disappeared as the black air dissipated.

The objects in the boxes showed clear outlines under the light. They were nine ceramic urns. It seemed as if something was trying to get out of the urns, causing the boxes to shake and tremble.

Asher Gu used his slender and powerful fingers to press down the one that was vibrating the most violently, forcing it to be unable to move at all.

The endless night, tinged with frost, penetrated through the wide glass window behind. Asher Gu stared at it, his pupils dark and his expression as cold as winter: "Tonight, be quiet."
