Marcus Blackwell stood there stiffly with his back to the door, his hands clenched into fists.
Five or six steps away from him were the seats for several main members of the Guan family in the small tea room. Charles Knight sat in the middle, five or six steps away from him, slightly tilting his pointed pale chin, looking at people with the corner of his eyes, with an expression that seemed to be smiling but not smiling.
Mrs. Guan and Isabella Cross didn't know what to say for a moment, and they were silent for a moment. In such a small tea room where the family gathered, even a pin drop could be heard.
From far outside the gate came the sounds of laughter and clinking glasses in the banquet hall, as well as the band's cheerful serenade. The distinguished and fashionably dressed guests were toasting each other, and the sound was like a song from another world, surging from the silence like a tide.
Just across the door, this is already another solemn and rigid world.
