Ethan Jiang returned to China years ago.
The temperature curve in China took a sharp turn upwards. The winter jasmine flowers wrapped around the iron fence outside the Jiang family's house had buds early, and the weather in the city was as warm as spring. Ethan Jiang was wrapped in a thick down jacket, and half of his face was slightly red from being covered in a soft wool scarf.
Ryan Qin was lying behind the exit railing, squinting at him. It was not until Ethan Jiang came up to him that he straightened up and took the suitcase from his hand, "You finally decided to come back."
"I heard that you were going to introduce me to a boyfriend," Ethan Jiang took off her scarf and down jacket and held them in her arms, pretending to be excited and teasing him, but her eyes were not very happy, "so I quickly packed my things and bought a ticket to come back overnight."
Ryan Qin led him to the underground parking lot, obviously not believing his nonsense, "Why do I feel that you still don't want to return to China?"
Ethan Jiang retorted: "Why don't I want to go back to China? I originally planned to come back after finishing college, but something happened and I stayed in the United States for another two years."
They both knew what that little thing was. Ryan Qin didn't want to bring up the past, so he changed the subject and asked, "Are you going home to adjust to the jet lag, or are you coming to my place?"
Ethan Jiang said without thinking: "I don't have jet lag. My father is on a business trip abroad recently. You have to take me in for a while. But---" He frowned again, "If you want to take me to meet my future boyfriend now, forget it. I spent the night on the plane, didn't wash my face, and my hair is messy."
"You're dreaming." Nathan Qin glanced at him, "Even if you are free now, she may not be free."
Ethan Jiang exclaimed, "Who are you looking for for me?"
Ryan Qin stopped in front of the white Mercedes, picked up his luggage and stuffed it into the trunk. He walked towards the driver's seat and asked, "Do you remember Derek Yu?"
Ethan Jiang opened the passenger door and got in. He lowered his head to pull the seat belt over and fasten it. "Your college roommate who has a strong family background?"
Ryan Qin put the car in reverse and drove slowly. "It was him. I opened a holiday villa after graduating from college, and he brought me all the connections. In the past two years, I also got to know some powerful and wealthy kids."
Ethan Jiang looked up in surprise, "So?"
"So." Ryan Qin took over his words, "The person who introduced you is his friend."
Ethan Jiang straightened his back upon hearing this and jokingly said, "Won't I become a black phoenix flying onto the tree branches?"
Ryan Qin sneered and helped him correct it, "It's a wild phoenix, not a black phoenix. You haven't made much progress in the six years abroad, but you have made yourself unable to speak Chinese?"
Ethan Jiang: "No, no, no, it's the Black Phoenix."
Ethan Jiang: "Isn't the black phoenix the one that comes out of the coal pit?"
Ryan Qin: ...
What Ethan Jiang said was absolutely true. Although he grew up in this old city, lived in a small villa and had no worries about food and clothing, and his family had spare money to send him to study abroad, his father was a real coal mine nouveau riche, and had nothing to do with those powerful young masters who were born with gold in their mouths.
Two hours later, Ethan Jiang was leaning drowsily in the private hot spring pool of the Dongjiao Resort. Ryan Qin walked in from outside with a cell phone in hand. Ethan Jiang turned around and looked as if he wanted to say something but stopped.
Ryan Qin glanced at him, "What?"
Ethan Jiang sat down at the bottom of the pool, leaning against the stone wall, and spoke slowly: "Forget about introducing a boyfriend."
He sighed softly, "My ex-boyfriend was a poor guy who worked part-time except for school time. It's hard for me to accept that he suddenly wants me to date a rich boy."
Ryan Qin: "It's too late."
Ethan Jiang: "Ah?"
Ryan Qin squatted down by the pool. "Derek Yu just called me and said he would come here to play for two days."
Ethan Jiang: ...
Ethan Jiang: "Tomorrow?"
Ryan Qin: "Afternoon."
Ethan Jiang: ...
When Ryan Qin and his friends came over, Ethan Jiang was drinking coffee. The music in the cafe was melodious and soothing, and the golden sunlight was dancing on the table, but all the seats were empty. Ethan Jiang frowned slightly, "Ryan Qin, your business is not good, and no one comes."
Ryan Qin ignored him and got up to pick up Derek Yu and others.
Ethan Jiang sat there for a while, then slipped out of the cafe and wandered around. Previously, he had taken a hot spring bath in a private pool, but now he walked to the public hot spring area and found that in the entire huge villa, except for the staff in uniforms and tags, there seemed to be no guests on vacation.
Ethan Jiang walked outside the strawberry garden and was about to ask an employee when his phone rang in his pocket. He found a stone and sat down casually, then took out his phone. The incoming call rang cheerfully, but Ethan Jiang's eyes could not help but fall on the lock screen photo. After a while, he moved his eyes to look at the caller, and then he was slightly stunned--- It was an American number.
He picked up the phone and called out in Chinese: "Senior Sister."
The woman on the other end of the phone had a light and pleasant voice, "Junior brother, have you returned to China?"
He said he was back, and when he wanted to ask the other party what was going on, he found that the light in front of him was blocked by the shadow, and a voice came from above his head, "Why is there still someone here?"
Ethan Jiang looked up and saw a group of people stopped in front of him. The man in the lead had handsome features and was dressed meticulously. Ethan Jiang's eyes stayed on his face for a few seconds, and suddenly recognized that this was Derek Yu, whom he had seen in the photos of Ryan Qin's circle of friends a few months ago. He stood up and subconsciously took a step forward.
The senior sister still called him on the phone: "Junior brother, are you still there?"
Ethan Jiang said to the phone: "Yes."
In the corner of his eye, Ryan Qin and another tall man walked over side by side. Ethan Jiang turned his head and looked straight at the man next to Ryan Qin, then blinked slowly, "Senior Sister, what did you just say?"
"I mean---"
The other person's facial features gradually became clearer and more complete within his field of vision. A handsome and aggressive face, with eyes and nose that were deeper and more three-dimensional than Derek Yu's, and pupils that were like two beautiful, clear brown ambers --- a Chinese-foreign hybrid.
"I heard about Aiden."
Ethan Jiang's cell phone slipped from his palm.
